More about Charles Dankworth

Charles Dankworth  is an amazing leader in the community of St. Petersburg, Florida. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Refuge St Pete, a nonprofit organization that provides housing and supportive services to those experiencing homelessness and poverty. Charles has been with Refuge St Pete since it was founded in 2016 and has been instrumental in helping the organization grow from a small group of volunteers into an established service provider with multiple programs and over 30 staff members.

Charles grew up in St. Petersburg, attending Bay Vista Fundamental High School before moving on to college at The University of South Florida where he earned a degree in Political Science. After graduating, Charles returned to his hometown and began working at local nonprofits dedicated to helping those struggling with poverty and homelessness. What started as volunteer work eventually turned into a career when he joined Refuge St Pete soon after its founding.

In his role as Executive Director, Charles strives to provide dignified housing for individuals who would otherwise be without shelter or support. He works diligently to ensure that residents have access not only to housing but also employment, health care, mental health services, legal assistance, educational opportunities, recreational activities, and life skills training so that they can live more productive lives. Additionally, he has worked closely with local government officials to build coalitions among various stakeholders within the community to address issues related to homelessness and poverty.

Charles’s unwavering commitment to making sure everyone has access to basic needs has made him an invaluable asset both at Refuge St Pete and throughout the larger St Petersburg community. His dedication and passion for helping others are evident in all of his work — something that will no doubt continue for years to come!
