The City of St. Petersburg is, again attempting to pass ordinances that violate the human, economic, and civil rights of citizens of St. Petersburg. You would think that after being sued in Federal court by homeless citizens, that the city would come to it’s senses and not abuse it’s power, but no, they are relentess in continuing to make the city unfriendly to anyone who is not a developer or rich and powerful. Essentially, they are attempting 3 things: force spiritual practioners of any religion that are not licensed to be licensed and forced to pay fees, forcing community gardens to be licensed and permitted, and “peddlers” to be licensed, background checked/fingerprinted, and forced to pay fees. This last ordinance effects the homeless again by forcing street musicians and those that sell the newspapers on Sunday to pay fees and be background checked. Of course, Politicians and their supporters who flyer and hold up signs are exempt. This would also effect political protest, as well. We should be incensed by all this!! Please come to city council at city hall this Thursday at 830am at 5th street and 2nd ave south in St. Pete and let your voice be heard.
