Dear Friends and Supporters,

I hope and pray that all is well with everyone. We, of course, are very busy, as usual. We are actually going through a re-evaluation phase of our ministry. We are looking at outreaches and programs we are doing, have done, and hope to do, to determine our priorities for the rest 2008. In some ways, we are looking at getting back to basics and focusing on what we have done well and renewing our committment to our outreach recovery program, Lionheart Recovery. We are now in a position where most of the program is on one site. That site we are now calling “Lionheart Courtyard”. It is 15 small, one and two bedroom cottages on one city block. We will be housing around 45 people in this program. Mostly, we will be housing recovering addicts and alcoholics.  In addition, we are looking to expand our street outreach to the homeless via coffee and sandwichs, from 2 nights a week to four. We hope to offer, in addition to food, referral services, clothing, blankets, bus passes and hygiene items. We are looking for more volunteers for that program.
We also are looking to be more active in outreach to troubled youth, street youth and young adults through music, the arts, and advocacy. We especially see the need to provide a drop in/music venue for youth, similar to what the Refuge had in the “old days”on 9th St. North in St. Petersburg.
This year we will be speaking alot at different conferences and events, including our annual trip to the Cornestone Festival. We are working on a book project about the Refuge, as well.
So, as you can see we will be very busy this year with many events and outreaches. However, to do this and expand we need your help. Refuge is still in crisis financially, due to a downturn in giving. Many donors have had to cut back or discontinue because of economic reasons. This month we are short by $2400. ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. We have several families that need financial help. Please give as generously as you can. All Checks can be made to the Refuge, 1818 29th Ave. North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33713. If you have any questions, please call me at 727 278 1547. Thank  you.

Sincerely, Rev. Bruce Wright MA, DMin., CPAC, MAC
